Hawken is a multiplayer mech-based first person shooter developed by Adhesive Games. The game was released in an open beta to the general public on 12/12/2012 as a free-to-play game published by Meteor Entertainment. The game went through 3 closed betas and is currently in open beta.
Hawken is named after James Hawkins, who was on the development team at the time. The game was called Hawken as a temporary name, but it stuck even after James left the development team, as it was a cool name.

[edit] In-game Currency
In Hawken, there are two kinds of in-game currencies: Hawken credits, and Meteor credits. Hawken credits are earned via normal gameplay, alongside XP for mechs. Hawken credits can be used to buy most things, such as mechs and items. Meteor credits cannot be obtained via play, and are acquired by purchasing them with real-world currency. Meteor credits can be used for purchasing mechs and items (at a much lower price than Hawken credits), cosmetic upgrades such as camouflages and parts from the body shop, and booster packs for XP and Hawken credits. Booster packs will temporarily double the amount of either XP or Hawken credits you earn from normal gameplay. The length of time the pack last for is determined by the amount of Meteor credits used to purchase the pack.

[edit] The Vanguard Initiative
As part of the lead up to the release of Hawken and the start of the public beta, a presale bundle option, called "The Vanguard Initiative", is available. Prior to launch, people can buy a bundle to get items exclusive to the bundle, XP and/or Hawken Credit boosts, access to the Closed Beta 3, an amount of Meteor credits, and in the case of the highest tier, your name in the credits.
